Good communication brings - and keeps - us together

You want your clients or customers to feel welcome. To feel at ease.

To feel like, with you, they’re in the best possible hands. Right?

But if you’re translating your content into a different language, with a different cultural context and everything that involves, it can be very easy to miss the mark.

I’m Lindsay, and I make it my mission to pinpoint the human aspects of your texts and tease them out in your translations, so you can appeal to your new audience on their terms.

I’m a translator, proofreader and consultant, but above all, I’m here to facilitate the way you communicate, on a human-to-human level, as I firmly believe that’s what makes the world go round.

That means when you choose to work with me, you’ll get a partner who provides a nuanced, 100% bespoke service, just right for your needs and your audience.

Rely on my creative flair and cultural insights to get your English messaging right.

Credentials you can depend on

Deciding who to trust with your English communications is never an easy job.

But opting for someone with proven credentials, clearly committed to keeping their skills sharp, means you’ll be on solid linguistic ground.

I completed a BA in Modern Languages and an MA in Translation Studies before jumping into the world of professional communications in 2009.

These days, I get my CPD fix, both related to business development and my skills, languages and specialist subjects, through my professional memberships:

  • Full member of the CIOL (MIOL) and Chartered Linguist (Translator)

  • Associate member of the ITI (AITI)

  • Full member of SFÖ-SAT (Swedish translators’ association)

  • Member of Nordic Editors and Translators (NEaT)

  • Member of SELTA (Swedish to English Literary Translators Association)

But what does all that actually mean for you?

I’m fully qualified, and building my skillset is a firm priority for me. So you, my clients, can trust that my services will always be of the highest quality.

Creativity beyond the laptop keys

Clients like you turn to me because of my instinct for pinpointing exactly the right style and flow for their texts, combining creativity with communicating their message clearly, comprehensibly and inclusively.

To keep those creativity levels topped up week in, week out, I’m always making something when I can. That might be music (the flute or singing) or something crafty (jewellery making, metalworking and print making).

Beyond that, walking, running, reading and watching sports all help replenish my reserves of creativity after a day of careful translation.

Why Spire Translations?

After 13 years working in-house for a small agency, working my way up to leading the translation team, I decided to take all those valuable skills and launch my own business.

Founded in 2022, the name was inspired (sorry, had to be done) by the iconic Crooked Spire, which sits atop the tower of Saint Mary’s church in Chesterfield, my home base.

Through Spire Translations, I now help my clients create English communications that are as unique, unforgettable and bespoke to them as this quirky bit of architecture.

“Lindsay has always been a pleasure to work with, her communication is always great, she’s quick to respond, always pleasant and polite and delivers work to a high standard and on time.”
